Welcome

You are probably on this website because you are suffering!

My journey to becoming a therapist happened 39 years ago when the therapist at the college I was attending "rescued" me.  As a result of his compassionate professional care, I left a dysfunctional marriage and I decided I to become a therapist who would provide a safe place for individuals to come to with their emotional pain.  I didn't want individuals to be alone with their suffering and pain like I had been. Part of my training to obtain my M.Ed. degree, Gestalt and EMDR certification required me to be a client, that crucial experience taught me about how to be a therapist.

I have numerous professional tools and experience from being in full time private practice for 21 years to assist clients in their recovery from family of origin injuries (which includes neglect and trauma) and/or sex addiction. I have a Masters in Education (Counselling Psychology) from the University of British Columbia, a three year diploma from the Gestalt Institute of Vancouver, I am certified as an EMDR Therapist with Level I and II training, I have completed Level I and II of the Gottmans' training for couples and I am a Certified Sex Addictions Therapist (candidate).  It is Maureen Kitchur's brilliant Strategic Developmental Psychotherapy that assists me in mapping out how I will work with clients.

My EMDR Training in 2001 prepared me to work with clients who had current and past, family of origin traumas.  A number of years ago, I inherited clients struggling with sex addiction from  a therapist who retired from his private practice. I began to work with couples, individuals, their partners and families who were living with sex addiction. Fortunately, my training enabled me to do a thorough assessment, and provided me with the tools to do trauma and body work using Gestalt and EMDR.  I am now adding to my cluster of skills the well researched training program which was developed by Patrick Carnes and his colleagues to become a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist.

In the "How I Work" section of the website, I explain how I therapuetically work with clients.

Today you are one step closer to a new you where you feel empowered and on a positive path to growth and well-being.  My goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

If you're looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging situation or you're just ready to move in a new direction in your life, I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.
